Interventions in Therapy
Types of therapeutic interventions that are most common in Kathryn’s sessions are:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: CBT is a type of therapy that helps people to understand how their thoughts, feelings and behaviours are interconnected. It can be helpful in managing anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other mental health conditions.
- Person-centred care: Person-centred care is a type of therapy that focuses on the individual’s needs and preferences. It is based on the belief that everyone has the ability to heal and grow, given the right conditions.
- Trauma-informed care: Trauma-informed care is a type of therapy that takes into account the impact of trauma on an individual’s mental health. It is based on the belief that everyone has the right to receive care that is respectful and responsive to their individual needs.
- Emotion management: Emotion management is a type of therapy, including psycho-education, that helps people to understand and manage their emotions. It can be helpful in managing anxiety, depression, anger, and other mental health conditions.
- Conflict resolution: Conflict resolution is a type of therapy that helps people to understand and manage conflict. It can be helpful in managing relationship difficulties, workplace conflict, and other areas of life where conflict is present.
- Gottman couples therapy: Gottman couples therapy techniques and strategies which are based on the work of Dr. John Gottman may be drawn on. These techniques are designed to help couples improve communication, increase intimacy, and reduce conflict. Please note that while these techniques may be used, therapy delivered is not “Gottman Therapy”.
- Family Systems therapy: Family Systems therapy which is based on the work of Dr. Murray Bowen may be used to help understand family dynamics and improve communication.
- Solution-focused brief therapy: Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) is a type of therapy that focuses on solutions rather than problems. It can be helpful in managing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and other mental health conditions.
Kathryn has experience in a vast array of industries and therapeutic interventions, so may draw on other theories or strategies not mentioned here as well. Kathryn will discuss with you and your family what type of interventions will be used based on your presenting issues and goals. Some people may benefit from a single type of therapy, while others may find a combination of approaches to be more helpful. The focus is always on what will be most helpful for the individual or family.
